Greetings from Texas! I went West after YHS and have been blessed with interesting people and opportunities in the fifty years since. My service family moved on as well, to Germany in 1969; parents ultimately retiring in the southeast. After attending Michigan State University where I was fortunate to meet my wife of forty years, I began a stimulating career in the energy industry that has taken me to live in Texas, Colorado and Canada, more than once. My wife Jane is a private bank managing director with one of the large NY banks, and the mother of my two sons. The older, after flying for the AF for many years is now into the electrical engineering and satellite field as a civilian, while the younger is married with a lovely daughter, and is a CPA-controller in the healthcare industry. In 2014, I semi-retired (too much fun to stop) and portion my time between non-profit anti-poverty and refugee activity, working some interesting energy projects, and recreation - cycling/hiking/traveling/whatever appeals. After the children moved on we refurbished a comfortable mid-60's ranch home near TCU in Fort Worth, and are establishing little footprints elsewhere anticipating full retirement (whatever that is) and the "fourth quarter". Wishing you all a fun reunion. My regrets on attending. Thanks to the many who organized all of the information and a peek into the last fifty years of my fellow classmates. Please feel free to get in touch if you find yourself in Texas. |

Wow- nearly 50 years. Thanks to all of you who have pulled this together! Life continues to be a wonderful adventure. After studying at Davidson College (NC) and Germany (Marburg), Ruth and I got married and headed for Malawi (Africa). When we returned, we have lived in Scottdale, PA ever since - southeast of Pittsburgh. I got into publishing and bookselling - and ran bookstores for 30+ years. After that I've been consulting and teaching folks to publish and run bookstores (much easier than actually doing it. ) - which has taken me around the world (not so many bookstores left in USA). Meanwhile, I inherited the little family Christmas tree farm in Abingdon, VA where my youngest daughter lives with her family. We're helping them build a straw-bale house there and having fun with Leroy (5) and Ember (3). Ruth and I have been married 44 years this June. She's retiring this June after teaching high school German, so we'll be traveling between home, farm and our other kids (one in Milwaukee with his wife and two boys (8 & 13)), and our daughter who is in Edinburgh, Scotland. Who knows what more adventures life will bring! Meanwhile, we'll look forward to seeing all of you in September, 2018! |

Well, I certainly am looking forward to our reunion! Here is my story so far: After Yorktown came four years of college (Princeton) and four more years of graduate school (Cornell). Then a job as a research physicist at the Naval Research Laboratory. (It’s in DC right across the river from National Airport.) It was supposed to be temporary, but somehow lasted 38 years. I spent a lot of my time with high energy electron beams, either using them to develop new clean energy sources or to clean up existing ones. I also explored ways to make better materials or make lasers shoot down missiles sent in by bad guys. I married my trophy wife Barbara in 1977, and she still puts up with me despite the fact that I am not quite housebroken. We have two kids and one grandkid. I pride myself in having never owned a suit, a watch, or, for that matter, even a fancy phone. I am functionally retired now, so I spend most of my time tinkering with British cars (still), building a model railroad in the basement (even now), or revving up the grandkid. But I do occasionally get involved in some sort of science experiment. One last note: On occasion I have been asked to write a brief biography. Mine usually starts with..... “John Sethian graduated from Yorktown High School…..” All my best to the Class of ’68! |

Comment: A hardy hello to my fellow classmates! A review of our Reunion Web reveals what a robust class we have! For me, it’s been a gratifying 50 years. My marriage to Mary Ann is also approaching fifty summers, and has resulted in two children, Jenni (Psychotherapist) and John (Business Manager). Jennifer and Justin are the proud parents of two terrific kids, Michael and Emily. Regarding my schooling, I have obtained a BA, 2 MA’s, an AGD and a PHD from UNC, Radford, William and Mary, and Virginia Tech. Professionally, I have worked as a Psychologist, University Professor, Organizational Consultant and Corporate President. We lived in Virginia until 1982, Ohio for 19 years and currently reside near our children in a beach front home in Redondo Beach, CA. Thank you Reunion Committee for all your good work and I hope to see my classmates in the near future! |

Attended Campbell University in North Carolina with Martha Hackney (1968). Met my first husband the first week of my first real job and we later married. We traveled extensively since all of his family were located in different countries in Europe. In 1997, I married again , we are still married, and just trying to enjoy ourselves. Thanks to all who have put together our reunion this year. |

I graduated from Georgia Tech in 1972 and then got my MBA from Duke University in 1974. Went to work for Carolina Power & Light Company (now part of Duke Energy) and was there for 19 years, working in finance, management services, and nuclear operations. I left CP&L in 1993 and joined ScottMadden Management Consulting in 1994. After 15 years as a partner in the firm, I retired at the end of 2011. I have continued to do some part-time consulting since then but remain mostly retired. I met Beth, my future wife, in 1973 when we were both students at Duke. She was a nursing student and went to work at Duke Hospital when I went to work at CP&L. We married in 1976 and have one child, a son who is now 31. He is a musician (classical guitar) who teaches and performs in Madrid, Spain. We moved from North Carolina to New Mexico in 1995 to be closer to Beth's parents, who were retired in Santa Fe. We love the desert and will continue to call New Mexico home. |
