Comment: Wow! What a website! Isn't technology great!

Well folks, I find myself residing 2 blocks off good old Route 66 in a mid-sized bedroom community half way betrween LA and Palm Springs. I've owned several small businesses over the years and still work to stay busy.

My wife is a community banker and I have 2 step daughters. One is a Lt Commander USN stationed there at the Pentagon and the other is a  Mom of 3 down in the OC.

My Mom still lives there on N 38th Street and I visit often, especially around Christmas.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Charles McDonald

Marital status: Committed Relationship
Occupation: Retired
Comment: Retired from staff positions at UC Davis and now am able to devote my time to digital photography using DSLR camera and a Macintosh computer. Except when required at work I have been successful in avoiding the Darkside of the early DOS and Windows computers.  One activity that I am surprised to have developed a habit for is a 6 mile walk on the streets of Woodland 4-5 days a week. It takes me 1.5 hours but it makes my doctor happy.

Kathy Mellenberg (Thompson)

Marital status: Married
Children: 5
Occupation: Teacher
Comment: My many jobs throughout the years led me to my current position as a FACS (Home Ec) teacher.  I teach Fashion and Design (Sewing) and Nutrition and Wellness (cooking).  Mine is a much needed class as most of the students no nothing of the kitchen.  Look at what they are wearing and you can see why they need help there.

I am the mother of five children and we have 13 grandchildren.  Our vacations revolve around visiting one family or another as they are all over the country.

It's hard to believe it has been almost 50 years - time flies when you are having a life!

Comment: Hello, classmates. I hadn't thought I would be intersted in a high school reunion, but this website and all of the work put in by those organizing the reunion have piqued my interest.

After Yorktown, I attended Kenyon College. I majored in music composition and theory and minored in English, so I obvioulsy wasn't very career-minded at the time. I think junior year was the year of the draft lottery, which I won with a number well into the 300s.  After a brief stint in the bay area in California, working as a tree-trimmer for Davey Tree, which had a contract with Pacific Gas & Electric to keep the trees trimmed away from the power lines, I went to law school at the University of Minnesota. During law school, I married a Kenyon classmate, and a year after graduating, my eldest daughter was born.

I practiced law in Minneapolis for five years, and then taught law for one year (full-time at what was then called William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul and part-time at the University of Minnesota law school). We then moved to Denver. In Denver, I have continued private law practice and some law teaching (as an adjunct at the University of Denver and the University of Colorado). After time at a somewhat large-for-its-time (70 lawyers) law firm, I had a solo practice, then a small firm practice, and last December joined a 13-lawyer firm, where I intend to finish my career.

Along the way, I got divorced and remarried to Cate, who brought three little girls with her into the marriage, so at one point we had four teenaged girls. I survived, and we have been married for 30 years.

After livng in various Denver suburbs, we moved into the city proper once all of the kids were on their own (more or less—I am sure some of you know how that goes). We travel four or five time a year, usually combining work with vacation (we lawyers like to be able to write things off).

Last fall, we went to Cate's 40th high school reunion (she is much younger than I) and it was fun, but I have to say our 60s music was much better than the 70s stuff they played.

Not sure yet whether we will make it to the reunion, but it is on the calendar.

There are surely some typos in this that I haven't caught, for which I apologize. It's not that I can't spell; I just can't type.

Comment: Dear Kind Reunion Friends:

  1. Thank you for your patience as I worked to change my schedule to attend.  That and fear of the wrath of my travel-in-life buddies: Plum and Annie.....here I come!   (Missing Bets and Terri)   As a special event coordinator for Elton John's AIDS FOUNDATION and Jean Michel Cousteau's OCEAN FUTURES SOCIETY, I used to hate those people who just couldn't say yes or no!  And now, I was that person!  A million apologies and thanks for your hard work in tracking down so many classmates.  I really look forward to seeing everyone from my 27th Street neighbor and friend, Diane Malcolm Katz, to Nancy Hawk Sorenson who was always next to me alphabetically!  Still married to Jim (class of 67) who sold me my cheerleading saddle shoes from Lee Shoe Store.  Have lived in Manhattan Beach, CA for 40 years and am grateful that friends and relatives have flocked here to visit over the many years away from Arlington.  Went to U Tenn for a minute before I transferred to William and Mary to be with Jim and create Jimmy.  We all grew up there together, and then headed west for Law School and finishing a Psych degree for me at Cal State Long Beach.  Back to Columbia Md, where Jeff arrived and our family was complete.  Realized we needed to raise the boys in CA, so headed back to the beach.  I was priviledged to work for those two guys mentioned above and learned so much about how to create awareness about their amazing causes.  Little did I think I would end up C0-founding my own, when my son Jimmy tragically passed away in 2004.  Since then, the Jimmy Miller Memorial Foundation has been my life's work.  Our most wonderful son Jeff, wife Alissa and grand-kids Riley (10 going on 18) and Austin (8) live 5 minutes away in the next beach city, Hermosa Beach.  They are my light and life.  Oh..and there's a grand-dog now too!  Harley Quinn Miller (16 months of chocolate lab fun!)  I didn't have time to get the face lift, tummy tuck, or botox I always thought I would get before arriving at a reunion.  But I do have a full heart of gratitude for being able to come and share this very special time with all of you.  Oceans of hugs and see you in a few days!!

Comment: After graduation, I went to NOVA for two years, then began my career with the U.S. Government, working for the Defense Comunications Agency Engineering Center in Arlington, later Reston, Virginia; the Defense Advanced Reseach Projects Agency (DARPA), in Rosslyn, Virginia; and the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Headquarters in Reston, Virginia, retiring as an Administrative Officer/Financial Specialist in 2005.

And yes, John Koehmstedt and I did run the USGS!  Actually, no, we just helped make it run.  John and I were in separate divisions, but I did work with his lovely Vicki.

Married Ken Nichols in 1975; we had no children and divorced in 1992.

Currently living in Leesburg, Virginia and enjoying retirement.

My sister Jody, also a 1968 Yorktown graduate, died in 2004.
