Daniel Brent Babcock, age 63, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, January 31, 2014, at this home in Cool, CA, surrounded by his loved ones.  He is survived by his loving wife Heidi, daughter Brooke Babcock, and step sons Trevor and Taylor Rubatzky (Alexis) and grandson Logan. He is also survived by his brother Richard R Babcock Jr. and wife Judy, sister Deborah (DR) Babcock, sister-in-law Maureen Babcock, brothers-in-law William Henry (Diane), James Henry (Mary Jo), sister-in-law Lois Showalter (Larry), mother-in-law Barbara Henry and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in passing by his parents and his brother Reginald Dennis Babcock.  Dan was born on July 3, 1950 in Arlington, Virginia, the third son of Richard R. and Dorothy P. Babcock.  He entered the world just a few minutes before his fraternal twin sister DR. Dan grew up in a suburban neighborhood that was filled with other kids his age. Dan attended public schools in Arlington and graduated from Yorktown High School in 1968.  He was a standout on the local community pool swim team and attended Little Falls Presbyterian Church with his family.  His summer job during high school was working as a caddy at the Washington Golf and Country Club, where he discovered his love of golf. After a start in college, he was drafted into the Army, served two years, and received an honorable discharge.  Returning home to Virginia, Dan went to work in the construction industry and then got involved in the restaurant business all while completing his BS degree at George Mason University.  He was also an avid skier and motorcycle rider.  In the early 1980s he moved to Florida, where his mother had established roots, and worked in the home remodeling business.  He met Heidi at his brother's wedding in 1988 and made a life changing decision to make her his bride in October 1988 and move to California to start a family.  After moving to California Dan continued in the home remodeling industry and also became very involved in coaching T-ball while living in Davis.  Dan and Heidi moved to Cool in 1993 and immediately became very involved in the Auburn Lake Trails community.  Dan was involved with Silver Spurs and swim team for several years and began playing golf once again, something he loved and looked forward to every Sunday.  Dan also enjoyed camping, more recently RVing, the beach and many DIY projects around the house. His "peppy" and upbeat personality will be missed by all that knew him.  He will always be remembered for the extraordinary upbeat fight he put up against his lengthy battle with cancer.   Please no flowers, in lieu of, you are welcome to make a donation to cancer research (your choice), Snowline Hospice (El Dorado County) or charity of your choice.

I promised to write a tribute to Danny a year ago but I still choke up...Danny was my big brother even if he was 6 months younger than me. His twin sister was my best friend and he just adopted me as his responsibility.  FIRST I have to give tribute to Dottie Babcock, Mommy B., the matriarch of the family.  She truly let her children learn morals and values with a gentle hand. RIP Danny was just a guy. Everyone liked him and wanted to  be his friend. He avoided problems . He did his military time during the Viet situation and came home to find his place in life.
