Leslea Nan Dummer 1950 ~ 2004 Leslea Nan Lorenz Dummer, much beloved wife of Arthur O. Dummer, quietly died on Friday, January 2nd while on a shopping trip. What else? In spite of many prolonged health problems, she welcomed every day as a time of opportunity to accomplish something. Her last words were "It's a beautiful day." "Beautiful" is an apt description of her own self and neither heaven nor earth will ever be the same again. Watch out, heaven! Deeply spiritual, with an incredibly strong personal relationship with God, she was always thinking about the future rather than dwelling on the past. She was a talented planner and organizer and always had some upcoming activities in mind for all of us. During her professional life, her planning skills were utilized by several organizations, including while serving a term as President of the National Risk Retention Association, of Washington, D.C. Her unique characteristic of having "never met a stranger" was undoubtedly forged during her childhood years as a world traveler with her military father and her mother, having lived in Istanbul, New York, Fort Churchill, Paris and the Washington D.C. area. She was educated in New York and Virginia, attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, California Western International University in San Diego and received her B.A. from the University of Utah. Leslea was born on January 8, 1950 at Lawton, Oklahoma. Her father, who preceded her in death, was John T. Lorenz. Her mother, who survives her, is Maurine Bigelow Lorenz of Salt Lake City. In addition to her husband and her mother, she is survived by three precious children, Melinda Dummer, Jen Whipp (Jason), and Leslea Marie Hunter (Damon), all of Salt Lake City. Two brothers, Thomas F. Lorenz (Ann) of Kansas City and Steven A. Lorenz (Anne) of Boise, also survive her. She has four wonderful stepchildren, Cindy McCandless (Allen), Caryn Johnson (Andy), Celia Underwood (Bill), and Marcus Dummer (Jody). Her many close friends feel blessed by her acquaintance and will also sorely miss her unique personality and perspectives. Also, thanks are due to her friends and loving caregivers Ally Furtado and Paula Wilcock, who along with her mother provided her with daytime companionship, support and shopping adventures. Thanks, too, to Dr. Melinda McAnulty who was always there with the right advice and treatment when it was most needed.
